AI Agents, Autonomy, Prompt Engineering, and Agentic Thinking: Welcome to the New Frontier of AI
Are you like me, slipping and falling trying to keep up with all the new AI changes? With so many others, from LLM Chatbots, to Text to Image to Video AI accuracy. Every other day there’s a new AI startup wrapper, not like Kendrick, ewww—weak joke🙄… Anyways, AI wrappers are applications or interfaces that build on top of existing AI models or APIs to provide specific functionalities, simplifying the user experience and potentially allowing for more customized applications.
I’ve decided to go deep in conversation with AI, ok I use to, today I just do a “Deep Search”—all of them do it now, from Gemini to ChatGPT. I figured I can get some new info and break it down to share with you—as I assume you won’t read a deep research technical paper—you’re welcome. 😉
What we’ll cover?
What is:
- AI Agent
- Prompt Engineering
- Agentic Thinking
- AI Autonomy
I’ll also provide some “prompts” if you choose to dive in.
AI Agent—008
I’m sorry but when I first heard “Agent” I thought of 007, a secret agent doing secret things, how can that be good?
An AI agent is a software system that uses artificial intelligence to perform tasks, pursue goals, and make decisions autonomously.
Siri and Alexa will answer those trick questions however AI agents don’t just react—they act, plan, decide and even improvise without interacting with us. You can get an AI Agent that can plan your calendar, book your flights, and also fix your code—sometimes better than you.
- Difference from Chatbots
Basic chatbots follow scripts; agents dynamically decide what to do next. - Abilities
Planning, learning from feedback, adapting strategies. - Why It Matters
Agents aren’t just assistants—they’re our new collaborators and executors.
In 2024 OpenAI’s AutoGPT and Google’s Project Astra demonstrate early agentic behavior—executing tasks across multiple steps without explicit instructions.
If your tools start setting their own sub-goals, you’re now in the future.
It’s real and it’s here.
Prompts:
- “Provide a detailed explanation of what are AI Agents, respond as if I know nothing of AI ever before. “
- “Create me the most basic, easiest & ready to use AI Agent, what would I need to make this happen?” – claude.ai
Prompt Engineering—Magic
But it does feel like magic—have you tried? I think there’s some skill to it too. It’s not just being specific or too vague, you have to be one with it and understand the science behind it all.
Prompt Engineering is providing structured inputs to AI models or ChatBots to achieve specific outcomes.
The art and science of telling AI what to do—and how you say it dramatically changes the results. It’s not just coding—well… ok, it’s vibe coding. It’s a weird new skill that will create weird new jobs.
- The New Norm
Everyone in business, education, and design will need basic prompt literacy skills. - Skillsets Needed
Precision, empathy—[Yass], Empathy, and strategic creativity. - Why It Matters
A poorly phrased request can make an AI output to be trash and allow us to accept falsehood— soo just be ready.
Starting in 2023 thru 2024 Microsoft and OpenAI began hiring Prompt Engineers with six-figure salaries, huh?
Where did they get the training?
I guess, as crucial as it was in 1995 for learning email, it’s time for us to learn how to prompt.
Prompts Tip:
- Instead of saying “write an essay” prompt with “write a persuasive essay arguing why AI will improve education, using 3 academic studies.”
Agentic Thinking = No More Thinking
“It’s a tool…just use it like a calculator.” I’ve heard others say—and I repeated. This is different though—we may not use our brain anymore.
Agentic thinking is collaborative thinking with autonomous agents and humans.
Ok, it’s partnering with AI as a thought companion—not just treating it like a tool. It’s our future.
- Real Power
Humans + AI = Means we can do more digitally & collaborate with more AI + Tools. - New Mindset Needed
From “control everything” to “collaborate wisely.” - Challenges
Managing overtrust, hallucination risks, bias amplification—just give the Matrix the key.
Today major firms like PwC and Accenture now train execs & their entire staff on “AI Collaboration Mindsets”
I mean, who doesn’t want a hyper-capable thought partner to who doesn’t provide “uh huh” for every response.
Stop thinking “tool.”
Start thinking “partner.”
Prompt:
- “How is Agentic Thinking different from my thinking, explain to me like I’ve never heard of AI”
- “Provide me a real world example of using Agentic thinking for a real world problem, from a normal person who don’t use AI.“
Autonomy in AI—🤔 IDK?
The idea of having an AI that has full autonomy feel scary, but I guess it depends on, autonomy for what?
Autonomy in AI means the ability to make decisions without needing a human hand-hold.
It’s powerful because it scales actions… but also risky because it’s not Agentic—you’re fully trusting the AI judgment with no human review or input.
- Concerns
Misalignment of goals, unexpected behaviors, “value drift.” - Benefits
Efficiency, scale, problem-solving without bottlenecks. - Levels of Autonomy
Ranges from assisted decision-making to fully self-operating systems—whoa too much.
In a recent Debate: Tesla’s Optimus robot operates with near-full autonomy in basic tasks—great T-800 🤖 example.
We’re in a world now where autonomous decision systems that understand inventory changes better than human staff—Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” AI retail stores.
If you’re good with AI making all the decision,
Evaluate not just what the AI can do, but how it decides to do it.
Prompts:
- “Tell me about how AI Autonomy was used with Amazon’s ‘Just Walk Out’, explain to me like I don’t believe AI should even have Autonomy never”
- “Explain in detail as if I have never heard of AI before, how AI Autonomy, can be used to find uncurable disease”
I hope you enjoyed learning these AI terms with me! Now you can join those AI conversations with confidence—like a boss. 🙌
